1134 Press Update!

It’s been a little while since my last blog post. Like I said in the September newsletter, time is flying by! But I have some news to share with you all, so it’s a great time to finally write a new post.

We’ve gone through all of the submissions to our upcoming anthology, The Archivist, made a lot of tough choices, and finished selecting submissions. We were so happy to have so many tremendous pieces of writing and art to read and immerse ourselves in. Though I wish we could have taken everything, I believe that the selections we’ve chosen to include will make for an aesthetically cohesive book that will be a terrific representation of the creativity found within this community.

There’s still a lot more work to do, and I will leave periodic updates here on the blog. I also intend to get back to a more regular schedule on the blog (for the most part), so check back often for more 1134 Press news and updates!

Thank You!!

The submission window for our first anthology, The Archivist, is now closed. We want to thank everybody who has sent their work for consideration—thank you! We will email our decisions as soon as we’ve been able to go through everything and select what we believe works best for the book. We will also keep everyone updated on our progress with production here in the blog.

In the meantime, Bree is working on a new video for the channel. If things go according to plan, we should see at least couple videos this month between the main channel and the Buy Me a Coffee page.

For more ongoing updates, and the occasional creative prompt, sign p to our newsletter—the form is below, and it is only sent on the first of each month!

Journal Art and Writing for The Archivist

We’re coming up on the end of the submission window for our first anthology, The Archivist. We’ve received a lot of fantastic submissions, and we can’t wait to start going through them all in detail!

If you would like to see your work in print, send us your submission to 1134press@gmail.com. We’re accepting journal art, fiction, poetry, and more! Check out the full submission guidelines through link below.

A Journaling Prompt: Adding Sensory Details

The May edition of our newsletter is going out tomorrow morning at 9:00AM. In this month’s newsletter, we discuss the value of adding sensory detail to our writing. We also include a new journaling prompt. If you would like to receive a new journaling prompt, and read a bit about adding detail to your writing, subscribe to the newsletter - just add your email below to subscribe!

The Archivist: FAQs

Bree and I put together put together an FAQ list recently for The Archivist submission guidelines. Rather than simply pasting them into the submissions page as text, we wanted to have a little fun with it.

Check out our FAQs in the gallery below!

Every Day Things: Running Errands

Keeping with our theme of every Day Things, Bree put out a poll recently to ask what you all would like to see featured in the next video. The winning response was running errands. So, we had fun yesterday recording for our next video which will be about journalling every day things: running errands (the actual video title will be something else, I’m sure). So, look out for our next video coming to YouTube some time in the next week or so.

Also in line with our current theme, check out our guidelines for submitting your work to our upcoming anthology, The Archivist! Follow the link below!

Don't Forget to Submit!

It’s been a couple weeks since we’ve opened up the submission guidelines for The Archivist. We’re happy to see submissions of work coming through, and we wanted to say thanks to everyone who has already sent us material to review. Thanks!

If you are new to submitting your creative work for publication, we also want to encourage you to go for it. Though we are more than pleased to receive work from previously published writers and artists, we would love to showcase previously unpublished writers and artists. So, wherever you are in your creative journey, we want to hear from you!

The Archivist: Submission Guidelines Update

We’re happy to have already begun receiving submissions for our new anthology, The Archivist! I think that making this book is going to be a fun journey. However, I embarrassingly forgot to include an important detail in the submission guidelines.

The original guidelines failed to note that the authors/artists who have their work selected for publication, will receive an author copy of the book.

The submission guidelines have been updated. Check out the guidelines HERE. If your work is selected for publication, you will receive one author copy of The Archivist upon publication.

In the meantime, check out the video below for some creative journalling inspiration!

Submission Guidelines Are Up!

We’ve been talking about this for a wile in the newsletter. We will be publishing an anthology called, The Archivist!

We are looking for a variety of submission types, and the guidelines are now posted to our “Submissions” page here on the website.

If you’re interested in seeing your work published, check out the guidelines at the link below.

And if you would like to keep in touch, you can find the sign-up for our newsletter below as well.

We hope to see your work soon - thanks!

Happy New Year! Would You Like a Journalling Prompt?

I typically, but not always, write these blog posts on Sundays. This time, though, it is December 31st, New Year’s Eve, and I wanted to invite any of you who may come across this to join our newsletter for the New Year. The letter goes out tomorrow morning at 9:00AM, and it will include a journalling prompt for setting goals in 2023. As usual, the newsletter will also feature the fantastic artwork from a member of the 1134 Press Facebook community (find A Craft Room of Our Own on Facebook to join the conversation!). An also as usual, we will share some of the exciting things to come in the future.

As I write this, which is quite later in the day than I hoped, the next 1134 Press video is about to be published to YouTube. So, if you happen to be online tonight, be sure to check out the latest upload to the channel. Grab a glass of wine or a cup of coffee (or tea, or water, whatever floats your boat), because tonight’s video is almost 30 minutes long!

Daily Snaps Creative Journal Challenge

This year we’re calling 1134 Press’ annual creative journal challenge Daily Snaps.

Remember December by taking a photo a day this month to collage in your journals.

The objective of this challenge is to capture the essence of what makes up the Winter season. Be spontaneous as you carry your camera with you this month. But if you find yourself in a creative rut, use this idea list to help capture the magic of December!

Winter Night

Is the moon exceptionally bright? Did you or a neighbor outdo themselves with light decorations? Or maybe you’re spending a cozy night with your pets, a glass of wine, and good television. Take a picture that captures what a winter night looks like for you.

The Bakery

The holidays are known for their decadent sweets. Take a picture of elaborately decorated sweets or those that remind you that the holidays are upon us!

Texture and Textile

Celebrate the cozy textures of the season. Take an up-close picture of your favorite sweater, blanket, or scarf. Show off its details!

Family Portrait

Gather your closest friends or family—have them sit for you for a family portrait.

Labor of Love

Take a picture of your favorite hobby or craft. Bonus points if it’s one that you only do during the Winter.

Winter Sky

Look up! And take a photo of the sky.

Self-Love

You’re beautiful. Capture it in a photo.

Warmth

A fire, a cup of tea, your child’s smile- capture whatever makes you feel warm.

New Addition

We acquire many artifacts during the holiday season, be it gifts (for ourselves and from others) or decorations, or a pair of lined boots. Take a photo of an object that has recently come into your life.

Candid

Take a candid photo of a person or animal that captures them in their natural state.

Any Given Morning

Although December is marked with extraordinary events, it’s important to cherish the simple ones too. Take a photo during your morning routine.

Find Balance

Winter is a season of giving food, gifts, time, and love. Finding the balance between giving and preserving can be tricky during this time. Capture an image that represents balance or symmetry.

Creating Fantasy

Decorations are a sure sign that the holidays have arrived. Curating your holiday decorations brings the holiday fantasy to life. Let’s create another fantasy with objects in your house. Stage found objects and capture the story through a photo.

In the Eye of the Beholder

Capture a beautiful scene behind a picture frame. Take an empty picture frame out with you on a walk or around the house. Hold the frame out in front and take a photo with the frame and the objects behind it.

Home

Give thanks to shelter and comfort! Capture an image of your house or your favorite place in your home.

Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice

Capture the smell of the season through images of raw spices, candles, flora, or a scene that invokes winter scents.

Winter Flora

Take a photo of nature in the form of a garden, a single leaf, or a floral arrangement.

Holiday Kitsch

Snowflakes, Santa, ginger breadmen—Holiday motifs surround us! Capture some of your favorite symbols of the season.

I hope you'll join me this month! I'm sharing my process of working through these prompts on various platforms (Youtube, Instagram, TikTok)! And please join our community on Facebook to share your creations with us too!

It's Been a Bad Week

Well, things haven’t gone exactly as planned since my last post. This will be a short one. We started of the month moving in the right direction; Bree got started on the next video for YouTube, and I was working on some things tangentially connected to 1134 Press. I believe she made some new content for BMC, but honesty, I’m not even sure at this point.

I’m not sure where/how it happened, because we haven’t really done anything or gone anywhere with a lot of people, but sure enough, I got COVID. Thankfully, it’s been a fairly mild case. I felt pretty lousy, and took a home test that came back negative. I wasn’t sure what was wrong with me but I felt like crap. Eventually, I went and got tested again and got a positive result. Shortly thereafter, Bree also started having symptoms.

I’m a few days ahead of her, and I’m starting to feel much better, though not quite 100%. She’s still feeling pretty lousy as I write this post. We expect to both be back to normal business by the end of this week. My quarantine period ends on the 16th, and hers ends on the 18th. And though we planned to have a new video for YouTube up today, it’s looking like it will be more like next weekend.

This might be the longest gap between new videos we’ve had since starting the channel. And we are planning to get back to a more regular schedule. We’re sorry for this temporary absence. We will be back to normal, though. And we can’t wait to get back on track!

Thanks everybody for sticking with us!

Coming in November!

Hello everybody,

This will be another off week for the YouTube channel, but like I wrote in the previous blog post, there is new content on the Buy Me a Coffee page. There are some other reasons besides making content for BMC why YouTube videos have been few this month. I will be writing about that in the next newsletter. It’s all good news, and gets a bit into our lives outside of 1134 Press. If you would like to read more about that, subscribe to the newsletter—linked below!

Also coming in November, new videos for YouTube! We love our YouTube Channel and the community that has grown around it. So, it’s always a bit of a bummer when we can’t post a lot in a month. And with that said, we are excited to get a new series going on the channel next month (and next month is right around the corner). If for some reason you’re reading this blog post, but you’re not subscribed yet to the channel, subscribe today!

FInd a link to our channel below, watch some playlists, and subscribe to catch the new series coming soon!

Coming Up for 1134 Press

Hello everybody,

Bree is currently working on the next post for the Almanac Diary! This will be exclusive to Pen Pal and Book Club Members on Buy Me a Coffee (BMC) and will be a video about her process of getting back into the project. If you’re also getting back into a project, this might be the video for you! She will also reveal the next exercise for the project.

Also, for Buy me a Coffee, Bree is putting together the next Daily Ephemera Podcast. This one will be about her page layout process. This one is available to all member tiers on BMC. See the link below to find all the fun content going up on BMC!

There is a bit of a hiatus on the 1134 Press YouTube channel right now. There is more content on the way, though! Coming in November, you can look forward to a new series on the YouTube channel. This series will dive deeper into page inspiration and journal prompts.

Here are some of the topics planned for the series:

  • How to use white space

  • How to use grids to plan a page

  • How to create hierarchy

  • Layering techniques

We want to thank you all for following along on this creative journey! Find our new series on YouTube in November—we will certainly send a reminder in the next newsletter (also linked below). And in the meantime, check out the new stuff on BMC!

Thanks everybody!

New Content

Hi everybody,

Bree has been posting more content on the Buy Me a Coffee page—a new video just went up! Though much of the content found on BMC is for supporters, there’s plenty you can access for only $1.00. Check it out at the link below!

To be clear, we are still posting videos to YouTube for everyone to enjoy, and we have no intention of stopping. We are just doing a little extra for the BMC audience (which could be you!).

Channel Update

Unfortunately, there isn’t going to be a new video upload today. I have to take some responsibility for this being another skip week. I think I might have offered too many revision notes when Bree shared the script with me earlier this week. With that said, Bree is still working on the next video, and it will go up on YouTube as soon as it’s ready.

As per usual, we have some other things we’re working on in the back ground as well. I plan to write about some of our plans for the channel and 1134 Press in the next newsletter. If you would like some of the details about our plans, go ahead and subscribe to the newsletter. It’s released at the beginning of each month, and the link below.

Until next time everybody!

Let's Keep in Touch

Our August newsletter drops tomorrow morning! In this edition, we showcase a member of the Craft Room of Our Own group, and we share images of some of her amazing artwork. We also look ahead to some of what we have coming down the pike on the 1134 Press channel.

Our monthly newsletter goes out the 1st of each month. If you would like to receive highlights from the community, news for things to come with 1134 Press, and the occasional creative prompt, please sign up for the newsletter below!

Next Week: Author Interview at 1134 Press

A new video is coming to the channel next week, and it’s one you won’t want to miss. Bree will be journaling about memories, and in doing so, will be using a very cool book. Bree will be working in some of the pages from, A Life Journaly, written by Sonia Callaway.

Even better, Bree had the opportunity to interview Sonia Callaway. We don’t often feature interviews on the channel, so we’re always excited to when they happen. Tune in next Sunday and hear all about the book and a variety of other topics!

If you aren’t subscribed already, click on the video below then hit the subscribe button. Click the bell to be notified when a new video is uploaded!
